As migrants, the stories of the lands we leave behind are inscribed in our memories and on our skin. The country we settle on harbours stories of its own, often hidden or unacknowledged -- the 'shadowlands' of First Nations' history. We are pinned between the weight of the past and the pull of our hopes for the future, layer upon layer of memory and story interacting in complex ways.
